Overcoming Fear of Failure

Posted on January 11, 2015 Written by LiKeisha 2 Comments

psalm 145v14Psalm 145:14 ~ The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.

So many hopes, dreams and goals have been stolen because of fear.  Fear of failure keeps us from having victory in so many areas of our lives.  Our minds can give us a million reasons why something will not work; but if we were to spend that same energy on putting the actions in place to achieve what we desire that goal can become a reality.  Instead, we often make excuses as to why we can’t do something, which in effect guarantees failure.  For me, I have come to realize that I cover up the fear of failure with procrastination.  I say “I am going to do something, make this change or take an action, as soon as….”; but the truth is often whatever that “as soon as” is, it just never comes or if it does come, I just make another excuse.  If we don’t try, we have already failed.  We have to go beyond just talking and put actions in place.  We have heard the saying “anything worth having, is worth fighting for.”  If God has placed a dream in your heart or put a task before you, you must take confidence in Him to help you do it.  Often times the big picture overwhelms us and we think that there is no way I can do all that.  However, when you take the first step, trust that God will direct you to the next step. And if you do fail, trust that God will lift you up and set you on the right path.

The reality is that on the journey to our dreams, we will most likely experience pain, loneliness, frustration, setbacks, anger and heartbreak.  We may even fail.  But we must trust that those experiences are all apart of God’s plan to prepare us for the blessing to come.  It’s through the heartaches that we can remain humble and truly appreciate the blessings that God gives us.  It’s through the struggles that our faith muscles are strengthened so that we can handle the load of what is to come.  We can’t have the crown, without first having our cross carrying experience. Fear of failure makes you stagnant and limits growth.  We must choose faith over fear.  How do we do that?  Commitment!  Stay committed to your dream.  If God has given you a vision, trust that He will give you the provision to achieve it.

Prayer: Lord, we thank you for putting dreams and goals in our hearts.  We pray that they line up with the plan and purpose You have for us.  We know You have not given us a spirit of fear, so we trust that You will guide us to making our visions and dreams a reality.  Not that we may achieve anything for our own selfish gain, but that You may be glorified and others blessed.  Amen.

Purpose in Action: What are you fearful of failing at? Write your personal prayer of commitment to trust God and follow the vision that He has given you.

For His Purpose,

Change of Season

December 13, 2015 By LiKeisha Leave a Comment

Ecclesiastes 3:1 ~ There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Christ was born so that none of us would have to experience the seasons of life alone, whether they are joyous or seasons of sorrow. Just as we have seasons of the year, there are seasons in […]

Overcoming Lonely Places

December 6, 2015 By LiKeisha Leave a Comment

Luke 5:16 ~ But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. (NIV) Some of you may be more familiar with the King James translation of this scripture that says Jesus withdrew into the wilderness.  I always just looked at this verse as Jesus taking time to be alone to pray, which we all should […]

Patiently Waiting

November 29, 2015 By LiKeisha Leave a Comment

James 5:7-8 ~ Be patient, then brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming.  See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.  You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Waiting is a part of life.  Even in […]
